ST. PAUL  (AP) – Gov. Mark Dayton has signed a bill making changes to state liquor laws that will allow Minnesota breweries to sell pints of beer on-site.

The omnibus liquor bill that Dayton signed Tuesday includes a provision sought by Surly Brewing Company, based in the Minneapolis suburb of Brooklyn Center. Surly is planning a $20 million brewery, restaurant and entertainment center in the area but had run into trouble under a longstanding state system that separated breweries from alcohol distributors and retailers.

Other states including Wisconsin already allow breweries to sell beer on-site. The owners of Surly sold their plan as one that would create new jobs and revenue for the state.

The liquor bill also allows bed and breakfast establishments to serve Minnesota-made beer.
