ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Gov. Mark Dayton wants University of Minnesota football home games to start later than the usual 11 a.m. kickoff.

Dayton says if you want to tailgate, you have to be at the stadium by 9 a.m. when most students aren't even awake. Dayton says there ought to be a law that says no Division 1 FBS football game can start before noon.

The governor acknowledges his idea might not get very far, but he says at least it will generate some discussion about the issue.

The national TV schedule dictates the games' start times. It allows networks to pick and choose matchups based on how each individual team is performing.
