PINE CITY (AP) — A day care provider in east-central Minnesota has pleaded guilty to child neglect after a toddler in her care wandered onto a nearby highway.

Fifty-six-year-old Carrie Richardson of Sandstone entered her plea to the gross misdemeanor last week in Pine County court.

Under a plea deal, a gross misdemeanor count of child endangerment against Richardson is expected to be dismissed when she's sentenced.

The criminal complaint alleges Richardson was intoxicated while caring for 10 children at her Sandstone home. A nearly 2-year-old girl left an outside play area on June 12 and walked down the center line of Highway 23. Vehicles swerved to avoid the child before two residents rescued her.

Richardson's daycare license is currently suspended.

Sentencing is set for Dec. 13.
