Eugene David Eveslage, age 91, of Silver Spring MD, died September 8, 2015. He leaves behind daughter Lynn (Tom) Welch of Olney MD, daughter Nancy McHenry of Frederick MD, daughter Mary (David) Seibert of Chesterfield VA, daughter Jill (Troy) Lockwood of Syracuse NY, brother-in-law John (Marie) Kahlert of Cold Spring MN, 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. His wife Dorothy (Kahlert) Eveslage, brother Don (Mickey) Eveslage, daughter Susan Unger, and granddaughter Colleen Welch predeceased him.

Gene was an especially fine American born to August and Rose Eveslage on July 4th, 1924 in St. Cloud MN. A WWII veteran, he was drafted into the Army Signal Corps and served in the 3187th Signal Service Battalion from its organization to completion of the war and on to Berlin for the first occupation (1943-1946). An expert in satellite technology, Gene was Liaison Officer representing the United States government at the Joint Intelligence Organization in Canberra Australia from 1980-83. He retired from the Central Intelligence Agency in 1984, receiving a “Life Service” award from Director William Casey.

In 1949, Gene married Dorothy (“Dee”) Kahlert of Cold Spring MN. His happy 17-year marriage ended in 1967 when Dorothy was killed in a car accident in Toowoomba, Queensland Australia. A stoic gentleman, he went forward raising his five daughters alone.

Throughout his life Gene embraced his Catholic faith and enjoyed ham radio and Morse code, cooking, entertaining, ballroom dancing and gardening.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring MN. Family will receive friends at 9:30 a.m. in the chapel; followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Memorial donations can be made to rosariacommunitiesinc.org
