Glen and I agreed that after we got married, it was a good idea to still date. We worked hard to get to where we are, so we should work harder to stay where we are and remain close. Here are a few of my favorite date ideas that won’t break the bank.

Play Tourist

Both Glen and I hail from St. Paul and grew up in the Twin Cities, but realized we didn’t really take advantage of living there, so we decided we were going to go sightseeing. The Walker Art Museum in Minneapolis has a donation policy most days and on Thursdays from 5pm to 9pm, admission is free. The Sculpture Garden across from the Walker is always free. Don’t forget the Magical History Tour, the Pedal Pub (great as a group date with friends) and other walking tours. It’s a great way to learn about historic places right in our back yard.

Make a Picnic

I love going on a picnic. No one I know does it anymore and that’s unfortunate. We have so many parks right here in central Minnesota, it’s a great way to get outside and enjoy our seasons. This is also something you can do that incorporates the kids and it’s basically free.

Bed and Breakfast

Ship the kids off to Grandma and Grandpas for this one. A cozy bed and breakfast can be so romantic. Even if it’s just for one night, it can be so refreshing to just snuggle up in a big smushy bed in a nice big house and be waited on hand and foot. Some places will even bring your breakfast to your room and you get to have breakfast in bed. You don’t even need to go very far.

Take a Class

Is there a skill the two of you want to learn? Maybe it’s dancing, art, or cooking, it’s more fun when you learn it together. If you’re looking for classes to take, your local community ed is a good way to find out what’s available, or you can check out what’s bubbling up near you with Around the Cloud.

Teach Each Other Something

Are you a talented cook? Great at baking? A good guitar player? Is he a talented cook? A good guitar player? A good photographer? Teaching each other how to do something you’ve always wanted to learn can be a really fun way to be closer and it can really useful later on.
