Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Cyril H. “Cy” Valerius, 76 of St. Cloud will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 26, 2015 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Sartell. Cy passed away peacefully on Monday, June 22 at Quiet Oaks Hospice House in St. Augusta. Reverend Timothy Baltes will officiate. Inurnment will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation of Cy’s body will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and visitation with his urn will be held after 10:00 a.m. on Friday both at St. Francis Xavier Gathering Space. Parish prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the church.

Cy was born on January 27, 1939 in Holdingford, Minnesota to the late Stephen and Margaret (Witte) Valerius. He grew up in St. Augusta and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1957. He started working at the St. Cloud Book Shop during high school and was employed there for nine years. Cy married Joan M. Stang on July 10, 1962 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in St. Cloud. Cy started his printing career with Volkmuth Printers in the mid 60’s. He retired from the printing industry in 1999. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish, St. Cloud Eagles Aerie #622, Central Minnesota Woodworkers Association and the St. Augusta American Legion Post #621. He also volunteered his time driving Disabled American Veterans which he enjoyed immensely.

Cy enjoyed fishing, woodworking (making sawdust), and spending time with family and friends. Cy was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be remembered for his strong faith and his devotion to St. Peregrine - the patron saint of cancer.

Cy is survived by his wife, Joan of St. Cloud; children, Paul of St. Cloud, Tom (Tina) of New Munich, Mike (Nancy) of St. Joseph, Mary (Jeff) Botz of St. Joseph; five grandchildren, Josh and Jaden Valerius, Ellie, Carter and Alaina Botz; and siblings, Donald Valerius, Marie Sisco, Doris DeMark, James (Ruth) Valerius, Zita (Tom) Hamann and Anita (Mark) Longtin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Joe Valerius.
