ST. CLOUD - With spring weather finally here to stay, thousands of people are breaking out their bikes or are looking to buy a new one.

May is "National Bike Month" and Revolution Cycle and Ski in St. Cloud has been keeping busy celebrating the holiday. Store manager Mike Schroden says the first step in buying a new bike is figuring out what its purpose will be.

"The first thing it figuring out what people want to use it for, whether it's going to be a fitness, recreational or commuting bike," Schroden says.

Riding a bike is a great physical activity to keep in shape, but many people are also buying bikes to escape high gas prices. Schroden says bikes are a great way to commute to work.

"We see a lot of people starting to commute looking for a different way to travel to and from work or just getting around town," Schroden says.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the number of Americans who biked to work increased to 786,000 during 2008-2012. That's a 61 percent increase over the 488,000 who rode a bike to work in 2000.

You can find additional information on biking up on the Revolution Cycle and Ski website.
