SHAKOPEE (AP) - Shakopee police say the suspect in a double-homicide has killed himself after a standoff with police in Waseca.

The victims were found dead early Tuesday. Authorities say the 68-year-old man and 67-year-old woman had been beaten to death.

Shakopee Police Chief Jeff Tate identifies the suspect as the victims' 40-year-old son.

Tate said in a statement that a vehicle belonging to the woman was found in Waseca Tuesday morning.

Tate says that when authorities went to the suspect's residence, he barricaded himself in a room with a gun. Negotiators tried for several hours to talk him into surrendering. But the chief says they found him dead around noon of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Names of the victims and suspect have not been released.
