ST. CLOUD -- St. Cloud City Council members will get an up close look at the Civic Center expansion when they take a tour tonight.

Civic Facilities Director Lyle Mathiasen says the project is on budget and only slightly behind schedule because of winter work and rain this spring. But, he says they expect to open it yet late this fall or early winter.

Mathiasen says the biggest hurdle with the expansion project has been retrofitting the new technology with the old. He says a good example is the fire suppression system which is 25 years old and needs to be controlled by one unit.

The $24-million expansion is being paid for with food and beverage tax dollars. Those monies can only be spent on the Civic Center, MAC and Paramount Theatre.
