Community Voices Support for St. Cloud PD Through Pizza, Pop and Flowers [VIDEO]

ST. CLOUD - St. Cloud Police were surprised with pizza and pop on Thursday to thank them for their service.

Police filled a break room to enjoy lunch while thanking the community members who brought the food. On the counter, a few cupcakes and donuts remain that were dropped off to the Department in the morning.

Assistant Police Chief Jeff Oxton says they've seen a great deal of support since the shootings of Officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge.

"Through calls and through messages and emails. People have been reaching out delivering things to our department, whether it be food or flowers on our statue up-front. Just to show Officers that the community has our backs."

In an interview earlier this week, St. Cloud Police Chief Blair Anderson said this is a “tough and tense time” right now for police officers. He also said the outpouring of support from the community has been tremendous.

Police have also heard voices of support while on patrol.

"One of our Officers just had a gentleman stop her and give her a rose and said: I want to give this to you just to show how much I support you and how much I support the work you all do."

Oxton says it's more than the food: it's the community kindness that gives them confidence to keep doing what they do.

"I can't go someplace public without somebody coming up and thanking me and that's as good as anything. Again: it's that message of support."
