COLLEGEVILLE -- Despite the chilly winter weather, volunteers put off their evening plans last (Monday) night and came out to support their football team.

The Johnnies are preparing to host a first round playoff game this Saturday, and their is plenty of work to do.

St. John's University Athletic Director Tom Stock says monks, fans, students and players are preparing for that home field advantage.

"The hard part now is to get everything ready for however many fans we will have at this game," says Stock.

Stock says the goal is to clean the home, visitor and student sections with in a few hours.

Freshman football player Anthony Gruenhagen says it's nice to help out the team in other ways than on the field.

"Coach asked if their was any volunteers that wanted to help out and some of us younger guys that don't make huge impacts on the field get to impact in other smaller ways like this," says Gruenhagen.

Everyone grabbing a shovel to clear the stands are volunteers and Stock says it's nice to see a community come together.

"This really does show the support of our football program, athletic department and University, we need help and it's been a great turn out," says Stock.

The Johnnies kickoff at noon against St. Scholastica at Clemens Stadium.
