COLD SPRING -- Main Street in Cold Spring is scheduled to undergo some major improvements this spring.

At Tuesday night's council meeting, City Engineer Brian Lintgen presented the plans for the Main Street improvement project. Lintgen says the project is very similar to the recently finished construction project on Red River Avenue.

"The core components of the Main Street project are reconstructing the street, updating the utilities and also adding streetscape elements similar to what we did this year on Red River Avenue."

Lintgen says streetscape elements vary but can include city banners on light posts, trees, benches and bike racks.

Replacing sidewalks along Main Street and building new sidewalks are also a major element to the project.

Lintgen says as of right now the city hasn't heard any major concerns coming from the community.

"I don't think there are any big concerns, it's working with the property owners as we go through the project to make sure that their concerns as we go are addressed."

If all plans move forward, construction should begin Spring 2017 with a completion date set for July 2017 to accommodate the Hometown Pride Festival.
