COLD SPRING -- Cold Spring has a new city administrator after being without an official one for nearly a year.

Brigid Murphy was hired at Tuesday night's city council meeting. Murphy says she was interviewed twice over the winter before the hiring committee told her they would recommend her for the city administrator position.

"It's a big opportunity and I'm going to learn a lot," Murphy says. "The city moves [fast], so I'm going to have to get up to speed and I look forward to the challenge."

Murphy, a graduate of The College of St. Benedict, has been working in court administration around the St. Cloud area for 16 years.

"This just seemed a way to take my background in court administration, all that public service, and take it to the executive branch," Murphy says.

Murphy's first day as Cold Spring's city administrator will be on May 9th.

"I'm looking forward to all the things I'm going to learn, all of the opportunities to develop new skills and getting to know all of the employees of the city of Cold Spring."

City finance director Kris Dockendorf had been handling city administrator duties since Paul Hetland's mutual termination last spring.
