COLD SPRING -- Cold Spring is in the process of taking steps to fill its open police chief position.

At Tuesday night's council meeting the council approved the resignation of Police Chief Chris Boucher and agreed to review the application, job description, job posting and scoring sheet for the position.

City Administrator Brigid Murphy says the council will be deciding next month if the city will be hiring a new chief internally, externally or both.

"Because we'll do that review of all of those documents, I anticipate having them complete for the January 24 council meeting and then as they recommended tonight [Tuesday] they didn't want to make a decision and they are going to leave it to the next council, who will start next month. And that council will decide officially if it's going to be an internal or external [hiring process]."

Murphy says they will likely post the position not long after the January 24th meeting and by the latest the city should have a new chief hired by April or May.
