COLD SPRING - Cold Spring residents are encouraged to apply for an open seat on the city council.

The seat is open because former council member Bob Thelen was sworn in as mayor earlier this month.

No previous involvement in local government is required to apply for the position. Applicants need to be at least 21-years-old and must be a Cold Spring resident for at least 30 days. Members can expect to earn $300 per month.

City administrator Paul Hetland says the city council decided to have an open application process for the seat because it would cost the city unnecessary money ($2,500) to have a special election.

Applications can be found in City Hall or on the Cold Spring website and need to be turned in by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, February 13th. The City Council will then open and review applications during their city council meeting later in the month.

The City Council will start interviewing candidates on March 10th.
