Cold Spring City Council Adopts Pay Change [AUDIO]
COLD SPRING - The Cold Spring City Council voted to change the way they're paid during their meeting on Tuesday night.
Council members will now be paid one monthly rate instead of a base pay with additional pay for each meeting they attend.
The amounts passed were $450 for the mayor and $300 for council members. The amounts were rounded up from the exact three year average of $436.81 and $296.18. City administrator Paul Hetland says the amounts were rounded up from a three year average because members do more than attend meetings.
Council members used to be paid $225 a month and were given $25 for each additional meeting they attended. Hetland says Mayor Doug Schmitz was the only member against the ordinance.
The new method hopes to simplify how members are paid.
