ST. JOSEPH -- The City of St. Joseph made a unanimous decision to approve the Community Block Grant tonight (Thursday).

Council member, Steve Frank motioned to approve the resolution and it was given a second by council member, Renee Symanietz.

This grant helps low-to-moderate income home owners and landlords make improvements to their property through a seven year forgivable loan.

The council looked at the impact that The College of St. Johns and St. Benedict had on the housing community in St. Joe.

They applied for the assistance in 2012 but were denied. They decided to move forward tonight and resubmit an application for 2013 funding.

The program awards up to $21,000 per home owner. The deadline to apply is February 28th.

Frank says he thinks the city has demonstrated a need for a grant like this.
