ST. CLOUD (AP) - Cities in the St. Cloud area are facing a shortage of trucks for hauling road salt amid an extended construction season.

Curt Yoakum of the state Administration Department says one of three vendors the state contracts with is having trouble getting salt to customers as construction runs late following a wet spring. Cities including Sartell and Sauk Rapids haven't been able to quickly build up salt stockpiles ahead of winter weather.

Minnesota cities are also paying more for road salt as the country experiences a shortage.

Compass Minerals spokeswoman Tara Hart said the company has enough salt to fill its orders but doesn't have the trucks to deliver it.

Sartell's Public Works director says the city has hired a contractor to pick up salt from a supplier.
