Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 9, 2015 at Assumption Catholic Church in Eden Valley for Christine Gruenes Maul who died Thursday at Cherrywood of Richmond. The Rev. Jerome Naduvathaniyil, O.S.B. will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends and relatives may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to services on Monday at the church in Eden Valley. Eden Valley Senior Citizens will pray at 4PM followed by Assumption Christian Women praying at 4:30PM, Parish Prayers at 5PM and Eden Valley American Legion Auxiliary at 5:30PM all Sunday at the church in Eden Valley. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Eden Valley.

Christine was born in rural Richmond to John P. & Olivia K. (Dockendorf) Gruenes. She grew up in Eden Valley and went on to graduate from the College of St. Benedict’s in St. Joseph. She married Walter Maul on October 15, 1988 at Assumption Catholic Church in Eden Valley. Christine was a music educator until 1981 and then worked in the insurance business and as a bank teller at the State Bank of Eden Valley until her retirement. She is a member of Assumption Catholic Church, Christian Women, Daughters of Isabella in Paynesville,the Catholic Aid Association and Oblate of the Monastery of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, MN. She is also a member of the Eden Valley American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary # 5979 of River Grove, IL, Eden Valley Senior Citizens, Planning and Zoning Commission, she was an organist and choir director at Assumption for many years. She enjoyed knitting and keeping up with the news, especially in her hometown.

Survivors include her Aunts, Viola and Elaine; Uncle, Mike; stepsons, Walter Maul Jr. of Illinois and David Maul of Missouri; and many cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter on June 14, 2002; and sister, Sr. Elizabeth Gruenes, O.S.B. on July 27, 2014.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Eden Valley Fire and Rescue Relief Association and the St. Cloud Diocesan Seminary Fund.
