CHISHOLM, Minn. (AP) - A Minnesota National Guard unit based in Chisholm is on its way to Afghanistan.

Reports  say Sunday that 147 soldiers from the 114th National Guard Transportation Unit will soon be deployed. They're now on their way to Fort Hood, Texas, ahead of the one-year deployment.

The unit got a hometown send-off on Saturday as they marched from the National Guard Armory to the Chisholm High School auditorium.

The unit will be responsible for delivery of equipment and supplies to camps in Afghanistan.

Most of the soldiers are from Minnesota, representing 106 cities and towns. Of the 147 soldiers, 78 are deploying for the first time.

Most of the rest are on second or third deployments. More than half are leaving at least one child at home.
