Chekhov’s “The Cherry Orchard” Hits The Stage [VIDEO]
ST. JOSEPH - The College of St. Benedict and St. John's University are presenting Anton Chekhov's "The Cherry Orchard" Heidi Hurrle is playing the role of Andreevna.
"It's about a Russian Aristocratic lady who was very wealthy, but now she's in a lot of debt. She's about to lose a cherry orchard, and a former surf of hers has now made a name for himself, and he's trying to help her get it back," says Hurrle.
"The Cherry Orchard" was originally written as a comedy, but it has been performed as a tragedy, like it did when the play originally debuted in 1904. However, the cast performing it now has taken the comedic route. Hurrle says she, and the rest of the cast are nervous for opening night, but they are ready to hit the stage.
We've been making a lot of progress, and we're getting down to it all, what we have to do, where we have to go with it. It's getting very polished.
Hurrle has enjoyed putting this performance together with everyone involved. She says every aspect has come together perfectly.
It's a lot of fun, and you'll have fun to
"We have a lot of beautiful costumes, the set is gorgeous, our cast is great, we have a lot of fun together," says Hurrle, "That really translates into the plot, and the dialogue. It's a lot of fun, and you'll have fun to."
"The Cherry Orchard" opens up tonight in the Gorecki Family Theater at the College of St. Benedict.
