CHASKA (AP) — Chaska police say a man has died after crashing his snowmobile.

Police Chief Scott Knight says the Chaska area man had left his workplace on a snowmobile Tuesday morning and later called a roommate for help.

Crews began searching for the man. A police officer spotted exhaust from the still-running snowmobile near a park on the Minnesota River in downtown Chaska.

Knight says the man was not on a groomed trail and apparently had run into a tree, a fallen tree or another obstruction. The man was semiconscious and in the beginnings of hypothermia.

The police chief says the snowmobiler died before noon at Hennepin County Medical Center. His name was not immediately released.
