MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A Minnesota National Guardsman is charged in federal court with making child pornography while he was deployed in Afghanistan.

Twenty-eight-year-old 1st Lt. Andrew Lee Schiller of Lakeville was indicted on one count of production of child pornography. A U.S. magistrate judge Wednesday ordered Schiller detained pending trial.

According to the indictment, between September 2013 and January 2014, Schiller contacted a 14-year-old girl from Minnesota via Skype.

Prosecutors allege Schiller asked the girl to send him sexually explicit photos of herself. The girl allegedly sent several images, including at least one sexually explicit image.

Guard spokesman Col. Kevin Olson says military investigators determined there was enough evidence to refer the case to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Schiller's attorney, Marsh Halberg, says he has not had a chance yet to review the evidence.
