UNDATED - A handful of local schools have been awarded grant money for their "Safe Routes To Schools" program. MnDOT made the announcement today (Tuesday) that awarded $2,500 each to Rice Elementary, Pleasantview  in Sauk Rapids, Sartell police department, and Melrose police department.

The money will be distributed through the BLEND organization. Spokeswoman Dawn Moen says Sauk Rapids will use their money to send 10 students in their Student Safety Patrol is a summer camp in Brainerd. Sartell will use the money for their bike rodeo program.

Moen says the money has to be spent by June 1st.
