ST. CLOUD -- Changing demographics in central Minnesota has prompted the CentraCare Health Foundation to give its clinics a $512,600 grant.

The money will be used to train staff on cultural differences and overcoming language barriers among its patients.

CentraCare Clinics President Dr. Alan Horn spearheaded the initiative. He says they're seeing more diversity every day and it's critical that they are able to communicate with their patients....

Minorities make up almost 9% of St. Cloud's population alone. It's higher in places like Melrose and Long Prairie.

Dr. Horn says they will use the grant to train their 2,800 staff members in cultural competency over the next two years.
