ST. CLOUD -- The Minnesota Department of Human Services awarded $215,000 to Catholic Charities in St. Cloud.

Catholic Charities is just one of 30 organizations across the state to receive funding through the Homeless Youth Act approved by the Minnesota Legislature last year.

The organization plans to use the grant to renovate one of their current buildings near St. Cloud State and turn it into a youth transitional house for teens.

Communications coordinator Trina Dietz says the money will also be used for their mentoring program.

The transitional house will provide shelter to young adults ages 18 to 21 who are homeless or at risk of being homeless.

There is an intake process that requires applicants to commit to various goals in order to be a part of the program. The transitional house will be able to accept up to seven people into the program.
