The Cathedral Crusader boys hockey team will be the fifth seed in the upcoming Class A boys hockey state tournament. Cathedral will take on the fourth-seeded St. Paul Academy Spartans at approximately 8 p.m.

Cathedral capped their section playoff run with a resounding 10-2 win over the Little Falls Flyers Thursday night at the MAC in St. Cloud. The Crusaders enter their seventh state tourney in school history with a 20-7-1 record overall this season.

"We weren't surprised to get the fifth seed and thought we'd be playing St. Paul Academy," Cathedral coach Derrick Brown said Saturday morning. "We had a chance to watch them (Friday) night and we are excited for the matchup."

The Spartans beat Totino-Grace 7-1 Friday night in the Section 4A final in Roseville. St. Paul Academy finished the season 23-5 and outscored their three section playoff opponents 20-3.

The winner of Wednesday's game will play against the winner of #1 Hermantown and Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato on Friday at 1 PM.

Tickets for the State Tournament are available at the Cathedral High School activities office beginning Monday at 7:30 a.m.

Wednesday's game can be heard on AM 1240 WJON with pregame coverage beginning 20 minutes before puck drop. Dave Overlund and Eric Johnson will have the call from downtown St. Paul.
