With A Strong Team, SCSU Football Now Must Draw Fans [AUDIO, POLL]

The St. Cloud State University football team is kicking-off their season tonight (Thursday). It's a season that almost didn't happen. The team was on the chopping block last fall, and the program would have been eliminated if not for the students who voted last November to raise their own activity fees by $1.74 per credit.

Vikings Host Texans Tonight

The Vikings play their final preseason game tonight when they host Houston at Mall of America Field inside the Metrodome. Rookie Christian Ponder gets the start at quarterback with Joe Webb set to replace him at halftime. The Vikings will play without running backs Adrian Peterson, Toby Gerhart and Lorenzo Booker. The starters will either not play at all or play sparingly tonight. Starting quarterback Donavan McNabb will not play.

Twins Salvage Final Game Of Series At Chicago

The Twins beat the White Sox 7-6 in Chicago Wednesday in the final game of a 3-game series. Minnesota erupted for 6 first inning runs off starter Jake Peavy. The Twins added a run in the 7th inning on a Jason Repko homerun after Chicago cut the lead to 6-3. Jason Kubel and Luke Hughes each had 2-run homeruns in the first inning and both Joe Mauer and Trevor Plouffe were 2-4 on the day. Scott Diamond threw 6 innings with 3 hits and 3 earned runs allowed to get his first major league win.

Twins Rout Tigers To End 7-Game Skid

The Twins defeated the Detroit Tigers 11-4 to end a 7-game losing streak Sunday afternoon. Luke Hughes led the Twins with 2 homeruns and 5 RBIs, Jason Kubel added a 3-run homerun and Justin Morneau was 3-4 with a run scored and 1 RBI. Brian Duensing allowed 3 earned runs in 6 innings to get the win and improve to 9-13. Brad Penny took the loss for the Tigers. Minnesota improves to 56-77 and are 17 games back of Detroit for first place in the American League Central.

Tigers, Verlander Beat Twins 6-4

The Twins have lost 7 straight games after falling 6-4 at home to Detroit Saturday afternoon. Justin Verlander threw 6 innings with 8 hits and 4 earned runs allowed to get the win, his 20th. He becomes the first pitcher to 20 wins this season. Carl Pavano allowed 9 hits and 6 runs (5 earned) in 6 2/3 innings to take the loss.

Cowboys Beat Vikings 23-17

The Vikings lost 23-17 at Mall of America Field inside the Metrodome Saturday night. The turning point in the game was when Gerald Sensabaugh blocked a Ryan Longwell kick and Alan Ball returned it for a touchdown. Donavan McNabb played through 1 series in the 2nd half and had 164 yards passing on 12-18 with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. His TD pass from a 49-yarder to Bernard Berrian in the first half.

Vikings Top Seahawks 20-7

The Vikings beat the Seattle Seahawks in a preseason game 20-7 in Seattle Saturday night. Marcus Sherels returned a Tarvaris Jackson pass 64 yards for a touchdown for the Vikings in the first half and Minnesota led 13-0 at halftime. Donavan McNabb played into the 2nd quarter and was 6-8 passing for 81 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions. Adrian Peterson had 6 carries for 16 yards and rookie Kyle Rudolph led the team with 3 catches for 22 yards.

The Twins downed the New York Yankees 9-4 Saturday night. Minnesota scored 2 first inning runs and added 5 more runs in the 2nd inning. A.J. Burnett allowed 5 hits, 3 walks and 7 earned runs in 1 2/3 innings to take the loss. Jason Kubel went 3-5 with 2 RBIs, Ben Revere was 2-5 with 2 RBIs and both Joe Mauer and Trevor Plouffe had 2 hits and 2 runs scored.
