The St. Cloud State University football team is kicking-off their season tonight (Thursday). It's a season that almost didn't happen. The team was on the chopping block last fall, and the program would have been eliminated if not for the students who voted last November to raise their own activity fees by $1.74 per credit.

Luke Hughes led the Twins with 2 homeruns and 5 RBIs, Jason Kubel added a 3-run homerun and Justin Morneau was 3-4 with a run scored and 1 RBI. Brian Duensing allowed 3 earned runs in 6 innings to get the win and improve to 9-13. Brad Penny took the loss for the Tigers. Minnesota improves to 56-77 and are 17 games back of Detroit for first place in the American League Central.

The turning point in the game was when Gerald Sensabaugh blocked a Ryan Longwell kick and Alan Ball returned it for a touchdown. Donavan McNabb played through 1 series in the 2nd half and had 164 yards passing on 12-18 with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. His TD pass from a 49-yarder to Bernard Berrian in the first half.

Marcus Sherels returned a Tarvaris Jackson pass 64 yards for a touchdown for the Vikings in the first half and Minnesota led 13-0 at halftime. Donavan McNabb played into the 2nd quarter and was 6-8 passing for 81 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions. Adrian Peterson had 6 carries for 16 yards and rookie Kyle Rudolph led the team with 3 catches for 22 yards.
