Amateur Baseball has Strong, Long Tradition in Minnesota [AUDIO]

The Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame will induct six new members. The event will be held tomorrow (Saturday) at the St. Cloud Civic Center, which is also the home of the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Museum. Spokesman Bob Karn says baseball has a long tradition in Minnesota, dating back to 1857.

Johnnie Football Blanks Northwestern College

The St. John's football team began their season with a 34-0 shutout win over Northwestern College Saturday afternoon in Collegeville. St. John's led 27-0 at halftime. Stephen Johnson ran for 114 yards and a touchdown and Nick Schneider ran for 34 yards and a touchdown for the Johnnies. Connor Bruns threw for 137 yards and 2 touchdowns for St. John's. John Ries was 6-10 passing for 43 yards for St. John's.

Gopher Football Loses Heartbreaker At USC

The Gopher football team under new head coach Jerry Kill lost a tight game 19-17 at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles Saturday. Minnesota trailed 19-3 at halftime but outscored the Trojans 14-0 in the 2nd half. Minnesota had the ball with 2 minutes remaning deep in their own territory when backup quarterback Max Shortell threw an interception. Shortell replaced an injured Marquis Gray. Shortell was 9-13 passing for 98 yards and 1 touchdown on the day.
