Man Killed While Walking With Others Near Cass Lake

Beltrami County sheriff's officials say a man has been struck and killed while walking with two others along a road near Cass Lake. Authorities say 32-year-old Timothy John Widstrom of Walker was hit by an SUV with a snow blade about 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Police: 2 Rice County Inmates Escaped Jail, Stole 2 Vehicles

Police say two Rice County inmates are back in custody after escaping from jail and then stealing and crashing two vehicles. According to the Rice County Sheriff's Office, the 18-year-old inmates escaped the Rice County Jail Annex early Wednesday morning by climbing through a window and up a perimeter fence outside the building.

Unemployment Rate Drops Despite Job Losses

Minnesota's unemployment rate has fallen to its lowest level in more than 13 years even though more than 5,000 jobs were lost in December. The state economic development agency says employers cut 5,200 jobs in December. The department also revised November's job gains down by 4,000.
