Minnesota Announces Fall Duck and Goose Seasons, Regulations

Minnesota's fall duck and goose seasons will open Sept. 26 with bag limits and season dates similar to last year's. Steve Cordts, waterfowl specialist with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, says that while the season structure is similar to recent years, the DNR adjusted the season dates in the south duck zone based on hunter preferences.

Minnesota Researchers Test Flowering Plants as Food for Bees

Researchers from the U.S. Department of Agriculture are testing about a dozen flowering plants which dot the landscape in western Minnesota as critical food for bees and an additional source of income for farmers. Dean Peterson, a research technician with the federal agency, says the plants provide food for bees, as well as a harvest of seeds that provide various kinds of oil.

Trial Begins in Fatal Neighbor Feud

A New Brighton man heads to court for a trial in a long-running dispute that ended with the fatal shooting of his neighbor. A defense attorney says the victim, Todd Stevens, created a "hillbilly hell" in their neighborhood by leaving beer cans strewn about, fighting with his father and threatening the defendant, Neal Zumberge, and his family.

Vehicle Hits, Kills 82-Year-Old Bicyclist Near Minnepolis

An 82-year-old bicyclist is dead after being hit by a vehicle. Allen Knutson, of Columbia Heights, was struck shortly after sunrise Tuesday and died about four hours later at Hennepin County Medical Center.

Former MSU Player Sentenced in Drug-Related Shooting

A former Minnesota State University football player will spend at least eight years in prison for attempting to kill a drug partner. Twenty-seven-year-old Dennis Ervin Carter was arrested in August 2014 after he allegedly shot Diaa Ahmed Abdelhakim in the head at the Renaissance Festival grounds.
