The Catholic church has elected a new pope. Argentinian Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio was elected as the 266th Pontiff and will lead the world's 1.2 billion Catholics. He has taken the name Pope Francis.
Tuesday evening, a plume of black smoke rose out of the Sistine Chapel at the Vatican, signifying that the first round of balloting to elect a new pope had passed without any nominee receiving the necessary two-thirds majority.
Last week we told you about the asteroid that missed Earth by a mere 17,000+ miles and the meteor that broke up in the atmosphere over a Russian town, injuring thousands. Now comes word that meteors were hurtling through our skies on both coasts.
