CARVER (AP) - A Carver County sheriff's deputy is hospitalized with severe injuries after another motorist crossed the center line and struck his squad car head-on.

The accident happened shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday on County State-Aid Highway 11 near Carver.

Officials say Deputy Erick Boder was on patrol when his car was hit.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts but were injured. The jaws of life tool had to be used to extricate Boder from his squad car. He was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center.

The other driver, 46-year-old Jason Horowitz, is also hospitalized at HCMC.
