ST. CLOUD -- The CapX2020 Monticello to St. Cloud power line went active today.

The 345 kilovolt transmission line covers 28 miles between the two communities and will improve the service reliability in St. Cloud and Monticello. It also allows for future capacity expansion on the existing line.

The next phase will be from St. Cloud to Alexandria. Work on that line will start in early 2012.

The entire line will run from Monticello to Fargo, North Dakota. It's the largest transmission line improvement project in the last 30 years and is expected to cost $2-billion by the time all of the lines are completed.
