Bullpen Blows Another Lead In Twins Loss
The Twins lost 8-7 in 10 innings at home to Seattle Monday night. Minnesota led 7-4 in the 8th inning when a Trevor Plouffe error and struggles from Joe Nathan and Matt Capps did the Twins in. Nathan allowed 2 hits and 2 runs while retiring just 1 hitter. Capps allowed 1 earned run in 1 2/3 innings. Anthony Swarzak gave up a sacrifice fly to Luis Rodriguez in the 10th inning to plate the game-winning run for the Mariners. Jim Thome homered twice and drove in 4 runs for the Twins and Denard Span was 3-5 with a run scored and 2 RBIs. Carl Pavano started the game and threw 7 innings with 4 earned runs allowed. Minnesota is 15-31 and has lost 4 games in a row. The Twins host Seattle again tonight at 7:10, pregame on WJON at 6:40. Righthander Nick Blackburn (3-4) gets the start on the mound for the Twins and righthander Doug Fister (2-4) toes the rubber for the Mariners.
