SARTELL -- A local man is asking you to join his cause in making eagle head canes for veterans.

Dale Lesser of Buffalo has been making eagle head canes for around three years, which he gives to those who have served our nation.

"I think every veteran that was in the service is entitled to a cane because he gave something extra."

He has made over 160 canes, each one by hand, and no two are a like.

"I've never been in the same mode for each cane, because each story hits you in a different way."

The canes are not meant to be walking canes, but instead honor canes.

Carvings of the medals veterans have earned are etched into the shaft of the cane.  They are then distributed all over the world. Each cane is free to any veteran.

"We will not have a veteran pay for a cane," says Lesser. "These guys deserve it."

Currently Lesser is the only carver in Minnesota. He has been making appearances around the state to get other wood carvers interested in the project.

"There is a lot of good hearts out there, so please if you can jump on the wagon."
