ST. CLOUD -- Minnesota highway safety officials are reminding you to remember the keys to safe winter driving.

Larry Nadeau is the Director of the Minnesota Highway Safety & Research Center in St. Cloud. He says when there's snow and freezing rain in the forecast, leave earlier to get to your destination, slow down, increase your stopping distance and be looking far enough ahead to anticipate problems.

Remember to slow down before you arrive at your turn and enter the turn at a slow speed to ensure good traction.

Nadeau says if you find yourself in a skid, take your foot off the gas, keep it off the brake and steer your car in the direction you want it to go.
