SAUK RAPIDS - The Sauk Rapids Police Department and other law enforcement agencies rescued a man from the Mississippi River today.

Stearns County Sheriff's Lieutenant John Lentz says the incident happened at about noon on the south side of the 9th Avenue Bridge in Le Sauk Township.

Lentz says 29-year-old Lucas Bialke, of Sauk Rapids, drove onto the Sauk Rapids Bridge, parked his car, then ran a short distance on the bridge before jumping into the water, falling about 50 feet.

Bialke was found swimming on the west side of the river. He was rescued by the Sauk Rapids fire department and taken to St. Cloud Hospital by Gold Cross Ambulance.

Bialke is believed to have non-life threatening injuries.

Sauk Rapids Police Chief Perry Beise says agencies from Sauk Rapids, St. Cloud and the State Patrol responded.
