HASTINGS (AP) - A 26-year-old Bloomington man has been sentenced to a year in jail for causing a crash that killed a 34-year-old woman in Burnsville.

Neftali Ramirez was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty in July to criminal vehicular homicide in the death of Erin Randall. A Dakota County judge also stayed four-year prison sentence in lieu of probation.

Authorities say Ramirez had a blood alcohol content of 0.26 after the March 8 crash. A prosecutor argued for a four-year prison term in line with state guidelines. Randall's sister, Laura Pezan, testified that Randall would want a sentence that gives Ramirez "the opportunity to help others."

Randall worked for a St. Paul nonprofit focused on education and social services. She was also a Fulbright Scholar and traveled to Bangladesh to fight human trafficking.
