ST. PAUL - The Minnesota Association of School Administrators has named Dan Bittman, the superintendent of Sauk Rapids-Rice schools, as the 2016 Minnesota superintendent of the year.

Nominees for the award are evaluated on leadership, communication, professionalism and community involvement.

Bittman has served as superintendent of Sauk Rapids-Rice schools since 2010. The district serves 4,300 students while employing nearly 600 staff.

As the Minnesota honoree, Bittman is also in the running for the National Superintendent of the year award, which will be announced during the America Association of School Administrators convetion on February 11th-13th in Phoenix.
