BIG LAKE -- A Big Lake man faces several charges, including assault, after punching a woman in the face Thursday night.

The incident happened at about 6:45 p.m. at an apartment on Fern Street in Big Lake.

Police say 18-year-old Shane Aust had punched a woman in the face knocking her to the ground, and hitting her a second time. When the victim attempted to call 911, Aust took the phone and threw it.

A bystander then called police, causing Aust to flee the scene. He was later found hiding under a vehicle in an adjacent parking lot, where we was placed under arrest.

While authorities began walking Aust to the squad car, he started kicking, screaming and resisting officers as well as slamming his head into the rear driver's side fender, damaging it.

Aust was taken to Sherburne County Jail for booking. He stated the officers assaulted him during the arrest, however the incident was captured on video with the use of a body camera.

Aust faces charges of two counts of domestic assault, violation of an order for protection, interrupting a 911 call, obstructing a police officer and 4th degree criminal damage to property.
