CAMP RIPLEY -- Soldiers from the five state area will gather at Camp Ripley tomorrow (Friday) to compete in the National Guard Regional Biathlon.

Athletes will compete in cross-country skiing sprints, mid-distance, and marathon laps and testing their accuracy by shooting at targets.

Major John Donovan says the Biathlon started in Europe when troops marched across the snow.

Major Donovan says the Biathlon is something the National Guard takes a lot of pride in.

Winners of each event will go on to the National Guard Bureau National Championships in Vermont.

The two day event goes from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. both Friday and Saturday. The event is open to the public. You must have a valid driver's license to gain access to Camp Ripley.
