ST. CLOUD -- The St. Cloud Police Department is reminding you to beware of fraud this tax season.

Stolen Identity Tax Fraud is when someone steals your identity, files a bogus tax return in your name, and collects a refund check from the IRS.

Crime Prevention Specialist John Justin says mail theft is a year-round issue, but especially during tax season as important forms like the W-2 is sent through mail.

Steps to avoid Stolen Identity Tax Fraud include checking the mail every day, receiving your W-2 electronically if possible, and having a trusted neighbor pick your mail if you're on vacation.
