Mass of Christian Burial will be 11AM Monday, February 1, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waite Park for Betty J. Schaefer (Thyen) of Waite Park, who passed away Wednesday. The Rev. David Grundman will officiate and burial will be in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls. Friends and relatives may call after 9 AM up until the time of services at the church in Waite Park on Monday. Arrangements have been entrusted to Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, St. Cloud.

Betty J. was born August 27, 1926 in St. Paul Children’s Home to Elizabeth Klinkner. She was raised by her grandmother, Barabara Klinkner, on a farm between Rockville and St. Joseph. Her first love was her family. She was united in marriage to Edmund H. Schaefer on September 9, 1947 in Waterloo, IA. Edmund died December 2, 1997. She then married Eddie Thyen on January 9, 1999 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Waite Park, and he died May 17, 2005. She was a homemaker most of her life. She worked at JC Penney’s in St. Cloud for 10 years. She enjoyed family gatherings, fishing, and playing cards.

She raised and is survived by five loving children, Ron (Darlene) of Kerrville, TX, Sandi Peterson of Waite Park, Barb (Doug) Thielman of St. Cloud, Bob (Mary) of Albany, and Brenda Lee Schaefer of Waite Park. She is also survived by her step son Eddie (Kari) Dvorak of Richmond; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; half-sister, Delores Brown of Rice; half-brother, Jim Brown of St. Cloud, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother; husbands, Edmund Schaefer and Eddie Thyen; grandparents, John and Barbara Klinkner; half- brother, Tom Brown and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials are preferred.

Betty’s family would like to thank the staff of Cherrywood Advanced Living, St. Cloud for their loving care of Betty the past two years.
