Benjiman Wayne Thompson, 35, passed away Wednesday morning after battling “unclassifiable” Lymphoma for over a year. He will be remembered for his curly ginger locks and his countless freckles, his love of chocolate and his amazing breakfast creations, his giggles and dry wit, his non-stop reading and learning, and his generosity, open-heartedness, kindness, and patience.

Ben was born at Ellsworth AFB, SD, and graduated from Stevens High School in Rapid City, SD. He attended St. Cloud State University and graduated with a BA in history and political science (just the beginning of his nerdery). Ben worked at Target in St. Cloud for 15 years, where he earned the reputation of “that intimidating overnight team lead,” although his team knew he was a silly softy. That was also where he met the love of his life, Jennifer (Jen) Morse. They spent 11 amazing years as husband and wife, and have two dogs, Daisy and Bernard.

Ben was always a thoughtful gift-giver. He gave his family the gift of another daughter and sister through his wife Jen, whom he loved and cared for endlessly. He gave Jen the gift of two wonderful fur-babies, Daisy and Bernard. He gave his parents, Bryan and Becky, and his brother Barry, the gift of an incredible northern lights show as they drove to say goodbye to him. He gave his sister, Brianna, the gift of his presence and the ranking of #3. He gave his nephew Clayton, his niece Adalynn, and his sister-in-law Mara the gift of his humor.

Ben is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Wayne and LaQuita Thompson and his maternal grandfather Kenneth Meier.

A Celebration of Life will be from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2015 with a tribute at 1:30 p.m. at Riverside Park in St. Cloud. Arrangements have been entrusted to Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Sauk Rapids.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Minnesota Historical Society or to Tri-County Humane Society.
