LITCHFIELD -- This week in our "Behind the Scenes" series on WJON, we stop out at Towmaster Trailers and Truck Equipment and see how they manufacture trailers.

From single axle trailers, to 60 ton trailers or snow plow trucks, the team at Towmaster are experts in their crafts.

President Lennie Stulc says the process starts by listening to the customers needs.

"The customer will approach the dealership with a trailer need they have, then they will come to us and we will help design what would be best for them," says Stulc.

Once a game plan is set, blueprints for the project are designed then sent to the production floor.

"The material comes to us in sheet form, we put them on the laser which cuts the material and the pieces and parts are put into pallets," says Stulc.

After the parts are cut and collected the tacking and welding process starts from putting on the axles, to welding the beds.

"It will go down through the assembly lines and all the various options are added to them," says Stulc.

When the trailer makes it through the assembly, the trailer is washed, inspected then sent for painting.

"Once they come out of the paint booths, we install the tires, put on the decals and warnings, then they go to another area where they are decked and put through a final inspection," says Stulc.

Then they are loaded up and shipped out. Stulc says the same process for trailers is used with their snow plow truck operations.

He says their ability to grow and listen to new ideas is what separates them from other manufacturers.
