MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Investigators say a man fatally shot by Minneapolis police as he stabbed another man this week had lunged at the officers with a knife.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension on Thursday identified the officers as Eric Malmberg and David Robins. Both are on standard administrative leave.

Earlier the Hennepin County medical examiner said the man who was shot, 50-year-old Raul Salvador Marquez Heraldes of Minneapolis, died of multiple gunshot wounds.

The BCA says Marquez Heraldes lunged at the officers as they answered a 911 call early Monday, then ran into an apartment bathroom and began stabbing a 63-year-old man.

The officers forced their way in and shot Marquez Heraldes. One officer suffered a hand injury during the struggle. Reports say the tenant who was stabbed was in critical condition Thursday.
