Backstage Pass: Anthony Shore Brings ‘The King’ Back to Life [VIDEO]
ST. CLOUD -- In our new series, Backstage Pass, we profile entertainers performing in the St. Cloud area ranging from local stars to international artists. To kick if off, we visit with a premier Elvis Presley performer who's bringing The King's music to Pioneer Place.
Anthony Shore is an award-winning Elvis performer from London who says his love of Presley's music dates back to his early childhood.
"My dad left when I was a kid and I found one of his (Elvis) cassettes with a song called 'My Boy', and I just liked the song and I fell in love with the music," Shore says. "Then it just went from there."
"[Elvis] could sing anything -- gospel, rock 'n' roll, rhythm and blues, country -- he just sounded good at doing everything."
Shore has been performing since the age of 16 and brings his new show, Elvis: '68 Comeback to '70s Splendor to St. Cloud this weekend. Shore says his show stays true to the music instead of being a caricature showcase.
"It doesn't really matter having the resemblance or not, as long as you can portray the music," Shore says. "I never talk like Elvis, I talk like [myself] -- I just try to take the tackiness out of the whole thing."
"I love performing, I've done it all my life -- I couldn't imagine not doing it and as long as people [enjoy it], you know you're doing the right thing."
Shore performs at Pioneer Place on Thursday and Friday night this week with a 7:30 p.m. start both nights. Tickets are $26 in advance, $29 at the door.
