AVON - The Avon Police Chief has released a brief statement on the mall shooting that happened on Saturday night. Chief Corey Nellis confirms Officer Jason Falconer is a part-time police officer with his department, and has been an integral part of the department for many years.

Falconer was off duty on Saturday night when he shot and killed the mall stabbing suspect inside the Macy's Department Store.

Falconer is being hailed by authorities, Gov. Mark Dayton and others. Falconer says he's "been trying to stay away from it all, for the time being." He says he wasn't hurt and declined to talk further, citing the ongoing investigation for not saying more.

No one answered the door late Sunday at a home address listed for Falconer, and a voicemail box for a telephone listing was full and not accepting new messages.

An informational meeting has been scheduled for tomorrow (Monday) at 11:00 a.m. at the Avon City Hall. The meeting will answer personnel questions about Officer Falconer. However, Falconer will not be at the meeting. No comments about the incident are planned.
