DULUTH (AP) - An aviation support company has exceeded its hiring goals less than a year after it opened for business at an abandoned aircraft maintenance site in Duluth.

And, AAR Aircraft Services in looking for additional skilled workers. The company had a target of 225 employees in three years after it arrived in Duluth last November. AAR currently has 276 employees and is looking for 40 additional workers.

Duluth Mayor Don Ness is encouraging local residents to get the skill sets needed to fill the aviation jobs. Lake Superior College is trying to help in that regard. The college will launch a two-year program next fall that will provide the airframe and power plant certification that AAR is looking for in many of its employees.
